A Fort Myers man has died after he crashed his scooter on US-41 near Coconut Point Mall in Bonita Springs, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The 48-year-old was driving his scooter south on the inside lane of US-41 north of Coconut Road around 7:55 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, when he lost control.

The scooter traveled off the roadway to the left, over the concrete curb and into the grass median. The scooter then struck a tree, overturned in the median and came to rest on its left side.

The driver was separated from the vehicle and died from his injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.
