The crash occurred at about 3:50 a.m.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the pedestrian, a 34-year-old North Port man, was pronounced dead at the scene. They said he was walking in the northbound outside lane when he was struck by the street sweeper truck and was then hit by a second unknown vehicle.

The northbound interstate lanes between Jones Loop Road and Highway 17 have since reopened.

The Florida Highway Patrol no longer releases the names of crash victims, citing Marsy’s Law.
