The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed a 24-year-old man was killed Monday in a motorcycle crash in south Fort Myers.

Troopers responded to the crash at the intersection of Summerlin Road and Kelly Greens Boulevard shortly after 3:30 p.m.

They said a motorcyclist was traveling west on Summerlin in the right lane when he lost control of the motorcycle, went onto the grassy shoulder and struck several trees. He died at the scene. Troopers said he was wearing a helmet.

Correction: State troopers originally told WINK News the crash involved another vehicle and a motorcycle, but it was updated to a single-vehicle crash, only involving a motorcycle.

The Florida Highway Patrol no longer releases the names of crash victims, citing Marsy’s Law.
