A 27-year-old man partially lying in a road in Olga in east Fort Myers early Monday was run over and killed, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The man was on the ground after being involved in another crash prior to the fatal one, in which his vehicle struck a couple of mailboxes and parked cars in the area of Old Olga and Cristóbal, according to FHP Lt. Gregory S. Bueno.

The driver left the scene of the crash, which happened at about 1:50 a.m. on Old Olga Road between Caribbean Boulevard and Cristobal Street.

Troopers said the car, possibly red in color, was traveling north on Old Olga Rd., just south of Caribbean Blvd., when the car struck the man, who was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital where he died.

Anyone with information regarding the crash should contact the Florida Highway Patrol at (850) 617-2302 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 780-8477.
