The National Weather Service has extended a Tornado Warning for southwestern Lee County until 7:30 p.m. It was initially issued until 6:30 p.m. The warning has since been canceled. A serve thunderstorm capable of producing tornado conditions was spotted about seven miles south of Sanibel. In the case of a tornado, flying debris may impact those without shelter or those outdoors. Mobile homes could be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, trees, windows and vehicles is likely. At 6:26 p.m. a radar indicated that a waterspout was spotted about six miles south of Sanibel, offshore. The National Weather Service advises that residents take cover as soon as possible and avoid windows. Go to the lowest floor of your home, to an interior room. They also say do not wait to see the tornado because it may be hidden by heavy rain. If you are in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial structure.
