A blood drive is being held Thursday, Sep. 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the front parking lot of the Sanibel Public Library on 770 Dunlop Rd.

The Lee Health System is in need of blood to meet local demand. Donating with Lee Health ensures donations stay in the community. Just one pint of blood can help save the lives of several people. A donation can be separated into different components: the platelets may go to a child with leukemia, the plasma to a patient with a clotting problem and the red blood cells to an accident victim.

Donors entering the Lee Health Blood Center’s Bloodmobile must wear facial coverings and will receive a mini-physical including a check of temperature, blood pressure, heart rate and hemoglobin. They must also be 17 years or older and weigh at least 115 pounds.

Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment by sending an email to crystal.mansell@mysanibel.com providing their full name, contact information and preferred appointment time. Appointments will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
