The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission responded to the report of a black bear roaming the Coconut Shores community in Estero on Monday. FWC crews went to the community after a neighbor said they saw a bear roaming in the area of Morning Lake Drive. Investigators did not find the bear after responding. They said the bear is still somewhere in the community. FWC said that if you encounter a bear, speak to it in a calm and assertive voice and back up slowly. Wildlife experts warn people to never run during a bear encounter; otherwise, it will trigger the species’ chase instinct, and they can run up to 30 mph.
