One barbershop in Lehigh Acres is gearing up to give free haircuts.

Starting Sunday at 9 a.m., Navaja Barber Shop will be cut hair for free for 24 hours.

Owner Melo Navaja hopes at no point on Sunday that his chair is empty. He says he’ll cut anyone’s hair. “We’re doing everything, everybody. Moms, dads, sisters, brothers, uncles, whoever wants to come in, we’ll cut them.”

He knows he’s about to take on a lot by cutting hair for 24 hours straight, but he’s ready. “A couple of energy drinks and just faith. I’m pretty sure I can get it done.”

This haircut-a-thon is for a good cause as well. They are hoping that in return for the free haircuts, people are willing to give donations to help Golisano’s Children’s Hospital.

All of the money raised is going straight to the children’s hospital. “It’s my passion. I really do love what I do. It’s something I’ve never done before. I’m just seeing if I can do it. I’m ready to do this and to give back.”

With the pandemic, Navaja knows doing something as simple as getting a haircut has become difficult so he is especially concerned with the kids in his community feeling forgotten.

“With everything going on, we kind of forgot about the kids. So I figured with the back to school thing going on and all that, this is probably the best thing we can do to give back to our community,” Navaja said.

Some customers have already stopped by and dropped off their donations. Navaja’s is also going to add an extra $500 to whatever donations they get.
