A 58-year-old bicyclist died Sunday morning after he struck some palm tree debris and was thrown from his bike in Naples.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the man was riding north in the bicycle lane of Livingston Road near Veterans Memorial Parkway when he crashed.

The rider was taken to the hospital and pronounced deceased. The crash, which occurred at about 5:45 a.m., remains under investigation.

Troopers said the man was not wearing a helmet.

The FHP no longer releases names of those involved in crashes, citing Marsy’s Law.
