On Saturday, early voting begins in Lee County, and there are several big races on the primary ballot.

If you’re heading to the polls this weekend, you’ll receive a condensed version of your political party.

Some of the big seats in our area up for grabs:

First the title for Lee County Sheriff. During this primary, republicans will decide who advances to the general election: incumbent Carmine Marceno, who was chosen by former Governor Rick Scott to replace retiring sheriff, Mike Scott.

And running against him is James Leavens, a 30 year veteran of the agency who started out as a corrections officer and worked his way up to deputy, detective, and even held a captain’s rank for 14 years.

A seat in the Florida Senate is also a big deal.

Heather Fitzenhagen and Ray Rodrigues will face off for the Republican party nomination.

Both of them have served as representatives in the State House for the last eight years.

Whoever wins that will advance to the general election with Democratic nominee Rachel Brown.

Those living in Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Naples and Marco Island will have a chance to weigh in on the race for Congress district 19.

For the republican party, there are nine names on the ballot. While Democrats only have two to choose from.

These men and women are hoping to replace retiring Republican, Francis Rooney.

In an effort to keep you safe, the Lee County Supervisor of Elections Tommy Doyle said, “[We are] asking voters to wear masks and if they don’t have one we’ll supply them one. All poll workers will be wearing a face shield or a mask.”

This year they are also introducing a no-touch ID system and you’ll see poll workers sanitize high contact surfaces frequently.

If you’re looking to avoid the polls altogether, you have until 5 p.m. Saturday to request a vote by mail ballot.

Early voting also begins in Collier County on Saturday. To see a sample ballot for your county or find your polling location click HERE.
