The ECHL on Wednesday announced the start of the 2020-21 season is being pushed to December for a full 72-game schedule.

The season was originally slated to begin Oct. 16, but will now begin Dec. 4.

“We are eager to return to hockey, but at this time we believe this decision is prudent for the safety of our players, employees and fans,” said ECHL Commissioner Ryan Crelin.

Adjustments to the 2020-21 ECHL Schedule, including for the Florida Everblades, will be announced at a later date.

The 2019-20 season was ended abruptly in March as the coronavirus pandemic began to worsen in the United States.
