Photo by AP. A Port Charlotte man was cited Thursday evening after a crash left his passenger dead in DeSoto County. The Florida Highway Patrol said the driver was headed north on Kings Highway, south of CR-761, when he lost control of his car, which collided with a guardrail and overturned. The passenger, identified as a 23-year-old Port Charlotte man, was ejected and died at the scene. The driver, also a 23-year-old Port Charlotte man, was cited with careless driving involving a death, which carries a mandatory court appearance. The crash happened shortly before 8:30 p.m.
