A 10-year-old coronavirus patient in Southwest Florida is home now. And his mom says he’s ready for some rest But his family pup probably made sure he had enough energy to play before he took his victory nap.

Mother Christina Prachniak says her son, Ben, is home now with her and his faithful dog, Doodles, Thursday after being treated for COVID-19 — a day after we shared his story.

“He was so happy,” Prachniak said. “He is very sleepy now. Glad to be home.”

And Ben is certainly happy to be back with Doodles. When he was in the hospital, Ben had one of his dog’s squeaky toys to comfort him and remind him of his beloved pet.

Ben was originally taken to the hospital in Charlotte County on July 4 and then transferred to Golisano Children’s Hospital in Lee County for further treatment.

Although Ben was allowed to leave the hospital, he remains positive for COVID-19 at this time.
