A suspect in an attempted homicide that occurred late Sunday in Cape Coral was found dead Monday evening.

Investigators began their search for Juan Nieves after he allegedly stabbed a woman, sending her to the hospital.

Nieves, 47, was found dead inside his parked car in the 2400 block of Northwest 28th Terrace – just five minutes away from the original crime scene at a home near Northeast 15th Place and Northeast 19th Street.

“We’ve lived here how long? And I have never seen that many cars here at one time. Not even for parties,” said Gisela Lescisin, who lives near where Nieves was found.

“Anything is possible in any neighborhood,” she said. “Things happen everywhere.”

Court records show that in February, a woman named Tiffinie Nieves, who claimed to be Juan’s wife, filed for an injunction against him for protection against domestic violence. A judge granted the injunction in March and Juan was arrested for violating it later that month but the State Attorney’s Office did not prosecute because Tiffinie didn’t want to press charges.

“That piece of paper doesn’t do anything unless it’s backed up by something,” Lescisin said.

Meanwhile, the victim of the stabbing was still alive at last check.
