Lee County deputies arrested a man they say was running a cockfighting ring in Lehigh Acres.

They were alerted Wednesday to a property on South Naples Avenue and found 22 full-grown roosters in cages, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

A search warrant led to the discovery of items used in cockfighting, as well as an undetermined number of chicks, many lacking feathers or having their back feathers cut nearly to the skin.

The cell phone of 50-year-old suspect Vladimir Reyes was searched and videos apparently demonstrating cockfighting training techniques were found, LCSO said.

Reyes was arrested Thursday morning and charged with two counts of possession of animals for the purpose of animal fighting and one count of possession of animal fighting equipment. He remains in the Lee County Jail.
