Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District say they believe the large brush fire that closed SR-82 on May 13 was the result of arson.

The area of origin for the fire was determined to be on Vernon Avenue and has been deemed suspicious.

According to a report, firefighters responded to a vacant lot with lots of dense brush, which added fuel to the fire.

Lehigh Fire is asking for any information residents or passersby of that area may have related to the start of the fire.

As with information on any potential arson, you can provide tips anonymously to SWFL Crime Stoppers and be eligible for a cash reward if your tip leads to an arrest. You can call 1-800-780-TIPS (8477) or go to http://www.southwestfloridacrimestoppers.com/ to submit a tip online.
