Behind the Lens with Gulfshore Life Magazine

Gulfshore Life Magazine is known for iconic shots that cover the front page of the monthly publication, but what it takes to get those shots is downright dirty.

Our partners let us go behind the lens to see the magic happen.

At 6 a.m., a crew of 20 people caravanned into the middle of the state in an attempt to capture the glamour and fashion you find in Naples, with a wild backdrop just miles down the street.

Jerry Pomales is the creative director at Gulfshore Life and it took him three months to scout the location, get the permits and hire the right crew. As the sun comes up, it’s time to get moving.

While he directs the model, the photographer shoots and several others stand behind while some hold a vintage canoe in place on the water.

Others keep an eye out for gators as they move through different outfits and scenes.

When asked about what he is looking for, Pomales said they’re trying to capture moments, with hopes that when you pick up any magazine issue, that it sparks an emotion.

He said the hardest part is picking that one shot for the cover. He typically goes through about 200 pictures to find the one.

You can find Gulfshore Life magazine at Publix or Barnes and Noble bookstores.
