A fire in the Placida Sands neighborhood in Charlotte County has already damaged one structure and forced two homes to evacuate.

The fire in the area of Brig Circle and Linwood Road off of Gasparilla Road is currently at 60 acres with 95% containment, according to Charlotte County Fire.

Crews said the fire is overlapping some of the area from a fire in February, which is making it easier for firefighters to put out since there’s less brush to burn.

One of the homes protected from that fire in February was damaged.

The fire has come up to the boundary of Rotonda West and there are currently 15 engines fighting the fire from North Port, Englewood and Florida Forest Service. Manatee County is also sending a strike team.

Crews say the biggest challenge with this fire is the wind shifting and moving in different directions. They say it has spread out so far that it’s hard for them to determine how much is contained.
