A pedestrian and his dog were killed Friday night in a wreck on US-41 in Charlotte Harbor, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

State troopers say they responded to the crash around 10 p.m. on US-41 just north of Edgewater Drive.

A van was heading southbound in the center lane of US-41 as the pedestrian was on the median attempting to cross with his dog.

The front right of the van struck the pedestrian and his dog then came to final rest in the outside southbound lane of US-41.

The pedestrian and his dog came to final rest on the right shoulder of US-41. Both were pronounced dead at the scene and positive identification remains under investigation.

The 47-year-old Punta Gorda man driving the van was arrested on charges of driving under the influence.
