A woman reported missing by family early Thursday was found injured hours later and a suspect was arrested.

Fort Myers Police Department arrested Nancy Petit Frere, 28, for attempted murder and kidnapping of the victim.

FMPD said the missing person’s report led to two crime scenes — one at Trailhead Neighborhood Park on Veronica Shoemaker Boulevard, and one at Brookside Village Apartments on Marsh Avenue.

Police were called shortly before 3 a.m. about a missing woman. She was later found walking on Arlington Avenue, not too far from her apartment at Brookside Village. She had been assaulted and was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital to be treated for her injuries, police said.

According to FMPD, the victim was able to identify Frere as the suspect.

Police said they believe the woman was targeted but that there was no relationship between the victim and her assailant, who was described by police as a “friend of a friend.”

Frere faces charges for kidnapping, attempted murder and robbery.

She remains in custody at the Lee County Jail with a bond of $250,000.
