Driver strikes bicyclist before crashing into Immokalee house

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving a bicyclist in Immokalee.

The crash happened shortly after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of West Main Street, where a car hit a bicyclist and then crashed into a home.

Troopers said that a 74-year-old driver ran a stop sign coming out of a parking lot and hit the bicyclist, who died on scene and has not been identified.

The driver then continued driving and struck a concrete barrier pole before crashing into a nearby home.

The driver sustained minor injuries.

No one was inside the time when the crash happened.

FHP said the crash remains under investigation.

The roadway has since reopened.
