Gov. Ron DeSantis unveiled plans Tuesday for a new rapid COVID-19 testing RV lab in Florida.

The governor wrapped up a press conference in Miami-Dade County around noon, where he made the statement regarding the new rapid testing site.

He said it’s the first mobile lab of its kind in the nation and it uses a cartridge to test to see if someone has COVID-19 in just 45 minutes.

The current testing system takes 24 to 48 hours for lab results.

It will start in Miami-Dade County at long-term care facilities.

DeSantis said the rapid test will be a game-changer.

The RV can do 500 tests every day and up to 3,500 tests a week, but there was no word on when it could visit Southwest Florida.

DeSantis is also looking into how to reopen hair salons and barbershops.

He wants to put together a set of safety requirements to reduce the risk of contracting the virus.

DeSantis says if a business can figure out a way to operate at low risk, then the government should get out of the way.
