16-year-old killed in SR-82 crash in Lehigh Acres

A crash killed a 16-year-old girl and closed SR-82 in Lehigh Acres for hours on Wednesday.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a car driven by a 16-year-old Fort Myers girl was westbound on SR-82, approaching Golden Palm Circle, when it drove into the opposite lane to avoid hitting a stopped vehicle.

An oncoming pickup collided with the teen’s car, killing its 16-year-old passenger, a girl from Lehigh Acres.

The victim has not been identified. Troopers said she was not wearing a seatbelt.

The 16-year-old driver had minor injuries. Those in the two other vehicles involved were not injured.

The crash happened shortly before 4 p.m. SR-82 reopened around 10:30 p.m.
