82-year-old Marco Island man drowned Wednesday evening

An 82-year-old Marco Island resident drowned Wednesday evening in the area of South Collier Boulevard.

Police and fire departments, as well as Collier County EMS, were dispatched to a possible drowning in the area of 280 South Collier Blvd., according to the Marco Island Police Department.

A MIPD community service officer on beach patrol was nearby and arrived in less than a minute. Bystanders were already performing chest compressions, and the officer used his automated external defibrillator.

The man, identified as Anthony Delapa, was declared dead at the scene.

This incident is still under investigation.
