Charlotte County said Tuesday it will reopen beaches and some parks.

Englewood Beach and Port Charlotte beaches will reopen Monday. No restrooms will be open and parking will be free.

The beaches may even be able to open before Monday. The county said they want to stay on the same page as neighboring Sarasota County, which said Wednesday it will also reopen beaches on Monday.

However, Charlotte County said no matter when the beaches open, visitors there and at parks will have to adhere to CDC social distancing guidelines, and they’ll make sure the reopening takes place in an orderly and safe manner. Gatherings of 10 or more will not be permitted.

The county will reopen sports fields and dog parks on Friday. Pickleball, tennis and basketball courts will stay closed, as will recreation centers. Softball, baseball, football and soccer fields will open, but no organized activities will be allowed.

County officials also plan to speak with Lee County officials this week to discuss their plans on reopening beaches.
