A 66-year-old Naples man was killed Wednesday afternoon when his car collided head-on with another vehicle on Vanderbilt Beach Road. According to Florida Highway Patrol, Gary Dines was driving east on Vanderbilt Beach Rd., navigating a curve east of Strada Place, when his vehicle crossed the median and entered the westbound lanes. Dines’ vehicle collided head-on with a car traveling west on Vanderbilt Beach Rd. that was occupied by four passengers. The driver of the westbound car, a 37-year-old Naples woman, and a 1-year-old boy only suffered minor injuries in the crash. Two others in the vehicle, a 4-year-old boy and a 35-year-old man, both suffered serious injuries. All were transported to Lee Memorial Hospital, except the 37-year-old driver the 1-year-old boy, who was taken to North Collier Hospital. Dines was transported to North Collier Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The crash remains under investigation.
