An arrest has been made in a 2017 Hendry County cold case, according to the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office.

Hendry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit arrested 25-year-old Arthur T. Harrington of Belle Glade, in the death of Donald Johnson of Clewiston.

Harrington is currently following in-house arrest orders for weapon and drug charges. He was taken into custody Friday, March 27, 2020, with the assistance of Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. He will be booked on charges of homicide and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The cold case was reopened. And, after reviewing the file, major crimes investigators met with the state attorney’s office. An arrest warrant was then issued for Harrington.

The homicide happened Dec. 14, 2017 when deputies received a call from witnesses reporting a shooting that happened in front of the M&M Store at ‪944 Kentucky Ave. in Clewiston‬.

When officers arrived, they found Johnson had been shot to death. The investigation revealed that Harrington, a lifetime acquaintance of Johnson, had shot him.

“Our major crimes investigators never cease to amaze me”, said Hendry County Sheriff Steve Whidden. “We have a great team of individuals who worked day and night to bring about justice to the victims and their families”.
