Florida Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle crash that killed a man along US-17 in Fort Ogden in DeSoto County Saturday afternoon.

FHP confirms driver Elijah Strader, 19, of Arcadia was killed in a crash along US-17 and the intersection with SW River St.

According to FHP, the crash happened around 2:45 p.m. when Strader was traveling with a passenger northbound on US-17 in a 2005 Ford Ranger.

Strader was not wearing a seat belt, and the passenger was wearing one. As they approached the intersection with SW River St., the truck went off the roadway to the right.

The crash report says the driver overcorrected to the left and then right, causing the truck to roll over and coming to a final rest on the east shoulder of US-17.

Strader was pronounced dead at the scene, while the passenger was listed as having minor injuries.

According to FHP, alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
