A North Fort Myers man died in a U.S. 41 crash on Saturday evening when a second driver failed to yield the right of way.

A 70-year-old woman was driving a Kia Optima around 8 p.m. northbound on U.S. 41 as she was approaching the intersection of Lake Fairways Blvd. in the left turn lane.

A 57-year-old man, pending next of kin notification, was driving a Can-Am Spyder, with Donn Dupree-McCormack, 61, as his passenger. The Spyder was approaching the intersection of Lake Fairways Blvd. in the left lane.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol press release, the Optima turned left and failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic. The Optima collided with the front of the Spyder, killing the 57-year-old man and leaving McCormack in critical condition.

The crash left a complete roadblock on southbound U.S. 41 for several hours before reopening.
