Heads up, Southwest Florida! Rain and storms are expected, some of which have the potential to be strong and even severe, between Sunday afternoon and early Monday morning. If that occurs, storms would be capable of heavy rain/localized street flooding, lightning and wind gusts in excess of 60 mph. Even an isolated tornado or two can’t be ruled out.

Regardless, this is going to be a WET system. Models have actually trended up with rainfall totals. Expect between 1-3″ of rain on average with a few isolated spots higher.

What about wind? We’re expecting sustained wind between 15-25 mph Sunday into Monday, however, gusts between 30-40 mph are possible (even higher within any strong storms). Please keep this in mind as it is the weekend before Christmas and many of you may have lights on your house or inflatable decorations in the front yard. To be safe, you may consider bringing them indoors!

The good news is we improve approaching Christmas Day! We’ll have a mix of sun & clouds with temperatures near 80.

You can trust WINK News the Weather Authority to bring you the latest on this approaching storm system!
