Law enforcement and neighbors gathered Wednesday evening to put up lights on an Alva family’s home to spread Christmas cheer while they go through the unimaginable.

The owner’s husband died recently and she told her daughter they will just decorate next year. But her neighbor jumped in to help, which brought the family to tears.

“To be here to spend time to decorate for my kids after what happened with my husband is indescribable,” Laurel Wheeler said. “They know a tragedy occurred here, but they want to still be as good as possible. So this is amazing.”

The first responders also brought gifts and other surprises for the family. She said her kids will be excited to see all of the lights.
