A vehicle crash in Collier County took the life of one person on Monday night.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, two vehicles were traveling east on Randall Boulevard separated by one car, when the car in the front, driven by Perry Switzen, 72, attempted to make a left turn onto Approach Boulevard. A passenger, Rosalie Switzen, 73, was also in the vehicle.

The second car, driven by Jorge Herrarte, 28, failed to slow down as Switzen was making a left-hand turn, swerving into the westbound lane of Randall Boulevard to avoid colliding with the car in front of him.

In doing so, Herrarte collided with the left side of Switzen’s vehicle as he was making the turn onto Approach Blvd.

Perry Switzen died from his injuries, and Rosalie Switzen suffered serious injuries.

Charges are pending as the crash remains under investigation.
