A suspect in Naples is behind bars after the death of his friend on Wednesday evening in what deputies say is an accidental shooting.

The suspect, Brian Belony, 19, faces a charge of Aggravated Manslaughter. He was out on bond for a May 20 arrest for possession of a firearm by a delinquent at the time of the arrest.

Around 7:20 p.m., deputies from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office responded to NCH Baker Hospital to reports of a shooting victim and the Osprey’s Landing apartment complex where the incident happened.

According to the CCSO press release, witnesses told detectives they were inside a vehicle with the suspect at the complex when he removed a firearm from a backpack. Belony accidentally pulled the trigger, firing a round into the victim’s chest. The gun was discarded at the scene and was later recovered.

The victim later died at the hospital. His or her identity is protected under the Florida statute known as Marsy’s Law.
