Rep. Greg Steube, serving on Judiciary Committee, reacts to impeachment hearing

The next phase of the impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump is underway on Capitol Hill, now in the Judiciary Committee.

Four constitutional experts, three called by Democrats, and one called by Republicans are taking the stand.

Witness Michael Gerhardt is a Samuel Ashe Distinguished Professor of Constitutional Law at the University of North Carolina. He said during his testimony, “If Congress fails to impeach here, then the process of impeachment has lost all meaning.”

Professor Jonathan Turley from George Washington University Law School added, “I’m concerned about lowering impeachment standards to fit a paucity of evidence and an abundance of anger.”

Their arguments, questioned by lawmakers, including representative Greg Steube, “You are hearing from law professors who have an opinion, so there is nothing that they were going to say that would change my viewpoint of the current facts as they are.”

The Southwest Florida Republican Congressman calls the impeachment process, a partisan attack by Democrats. And says when he met with constituents a few weeks ago in Charlotte County, they expressed dissatisfaction with Congress.

“When they talk about impeachment, what they talk about it is their frustration that this Congress has done nothing but talk about impeaching the president because that is all that the Democrats can focus on, “Steube said.

Now more than ever, the congressman says he continues his full support of the president.

Congressman Steube argues he’s heard very little factual evidence since the start of the probe.
