If sneakers are on your list of gifts to buy, you may want to make sure you are not falling for a scheme when purchasing them online.

One man in Broward County complained that he bought a pair of Air Jordan sneakers for $100 and when he got them, they were obviously fake.

The Better Business Bureau says ads on social media sell custom sneakers, but the companies behind the websites aren’t legit and you’ll either wind up with counterfeit products or nothing at all.

“You have to read these companies reviews, you have to go to the Better Business Bureau at bbb.org, see what others are saying about them, and see how the company handles their customers. If they are a legitimate company, they’re going to be responsive to their customers,” said director of public relations and outreach at the BBB, Bryan Oglesby.

You can read reports yourself on the BBB’s scam tracker. All you have to do is type in your zip code to see all of the scams reported, or you can put in a keyword like “sneakers” to read reports related to that specific item.
