3-year-old shot in Cape Coral Monday night

A shooting investigation is underway in Cape Coral after a child was shot Monday night.

According to Cape Coral Police, the 3-year-old was shot in the chest at a home near Andalusia Boulevard and Diplomat Parkway at 10:25 p.m.

Police say they believe one shot was fired.

The child was transported to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg and is in serious condition.

Tera Rose lives across the street from the home where the incident happened, “We came out and there was just a lot of police and everything was taped off. We were kind of concerned about what was going on.”

The incident is still being actively investigated and charges have not been filed at this time, police added.

And as the tight-lipped investigation continues, neighbors all say they’re keeping that child in their prayers.
