An active investigation is underway after a captain was rescued off a commercial fishing vessel. The man who said he is the owner of the boat told WINK News a female crew member hit the captain over the head.

The incident happened around 70 miles west of Marco Island. The names of the captain and the crew member have not been released. The Coast Guard told WINK News the boat will be back on Fort Myers Beach sometime Tuesday and it will not be at the Coast Guard station.

A captain and another crew member were the only people on the vessel. The Coast Guard out of Saint Pete and the Naples Fire Dept. stepped in and evacuated the captain for a head injury.

“My main concern is my captain is in the hospital and they got the girl off the boat to get her help,” said James Glover, owner of the vessel. “But my main concern is we’ve got a boat floating out in the middle of the ocean with some lights on and who knows how long the batteries will stay up running the lights.”
