Community looking for answers as crime scene takes over their Lehigh Acres neighborhood

A medical examiner removed a body that laid in the middle of the road for hours in Lehigh Acres Friday.

Deputies continue to investigate an area on Monroe Avenue. Neighbors say investigators first got to the scene early this morning.

Chester Olson and his neighbors are still trying to piece together what lead to an active crime scene around their Lehigh Acres neighborhood for hours Friday morning.

“To see all these police cars up, down the block, I had no idea what happened,” said Olson.

Deputies spent much of the day investigating what appeared to be a dead body lying in the road.

Jackie Robinson has lived in this neighborhood for seven years. He says what’s normally a pretty quiet neighborhood turned into a hectic scene this morning.

“I got up this morning to go walk my dogs and saw a bunch of cop cars come shooting down and then they roped everything off,” he said.

As a caretaker of seven grandchildren, he’s looking for answers.

“They play out here all the time and something like this, we need to know if we’re all safe.”

Although deputies are staying tight-lipped about what happened, investigators actively searched two vehicles and the perimeter of a nearby home.

“It’s just an unfortunate thing that happened, especially now with the holidays coming up,” said Olson.

As neighbors wait for answers, they’re keeping an eye out, in hopes that they’ll get some information soon.

We’ve reached out to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office for more information on the scene.
