The Farm-City BBQ of Collier County kicks off at Cambier Park

The Farm-City BBQ of Collier County is pleased to announce that the annual barbeque will be hosted by the Marine Industry Association of Collier County (MIACC) on Wednesday, November 27th from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Cambier Park in Naples.

With deep roots in Collier County’s business and agricultural community, the annual Farm City BBQ has become a favorite Thanksgiving tradition that has raised more than $465,000 for local non-profit organizations.

The 2019 BBQ will include the event’s signature steak lunch, complete with Immokalee Salad and corn provided by Lipman’s, baked beans, complimentary beer, wine and soda, as well as special entertainment. 64 years ago, the national Farm-City Council was formed in an effort to help bring together business and agricultural communities. Their goal was to demonstrate the interdependence of a vibrant network of farmers and business owners that help support the economy and provide the basic essentials that every citizen needs.

In Collier County, the Farm City BBQ was formed in a similar way. Event volunteers remember when Collier County’s farmers had a bad year of crops. The business leaders reached out to the farmers, inviting them for a BBQ and sharing in the little produce that was available so that their families wouldn’t go hungry on Thanksgiving Day.

A year later, the farming community wanted to reciprocate the hospitality, so they invited the business leaders for a BBQ in the “country”. While many relationships have been built through the BBQ, so have our next generation of leaders. As the event has grown over the past 17 years, the Farm City BBQ has donated proceeds back into the community to support youth leadership development programs.

The beneficiaries of the 2019 BBQ will be the Collier County 4H Association, Youth Leadership Collier, the Collier County Junior Deputies League, and Key Club International.
