A woman says she feared a man was about to rape her after crashing into her car. She says he followed her and then intentionally rear-ended her car. Then, she says he forcefully and inappropriately touched her.

Wednesday, Collier County Sheriff’s Office arrested Rickardo Burgess, 35, after responding to a crash along Immokalee Road near Oil Well Road in Orangetree. A female victim says she was inappropriately touched by Burgess after he intentionally hit her car.

The crash happened near a local gas station. We spoke to employee Haley Barbera, who was working when the crash happened.

“I understand how that feels because it happened to me,” Barbera said. “It’s kinda traumatizing.”

Barbera says she feels for the woman who reported the crash and the violence that she said that followed. At first, she thought the crash was a normal fender bender.

“Maybe just two cars that hit each other or just one car that was causing an issue,” Barbera said.

According to the report, after Burgess hit the woman’s car, he left his vehicle and got inside hers, pinning her head to the steering wheel, pulled down her shirt and forcefully grabbed her breasts.

Drivers we spoke to said they could not imagine being in that position.

“I would probably deck him in the face,” Jameela Carrasco.

“I’d be mad and yelling what is wrong with you?” Devan Fuller said.

A witness dialed 911 and told dispatchers the woman was running down the street looking for help.

A battalion chief was nearby and responded to her.

Investigators say Burgess tried to fight the battalion chief when he responded. Backup assistance responded, and Burgess was taken to a district substation. There, CCSO says he was uncooperative and requested EMS, which eventually responded and took him to a nearby hospital.

CCSO says Burgess continued to be uncooperative and began to become disruptive to hospital patients and ER staff.

Burgess was taken to Naples Jail Center to be booked into jail. he continued to be uncooperative, so law enforcement officers pepper-sprayed him and put him in a holding cell.

In the arrest report, Burgess faces a charge for Burglary with Assault or Battery, Criminal Mischief, (over $1,000) and Disorderly Intoxication (alcohol and/or drugs).

Investigators found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in Burgess’ car, but no drug charges have reportedly been brought against him at this time.

Burgess is scheduled to appear in court Friday.
