A volunteer with the Florida Gulf Coast University football sports club has given over 100 illegitimate “offers” to athletes across the country. Now, the university has a problem to deal with.

FGCU has 15 intercollegiate sports for student-athletes, but not a football team. The university is a member of the Division 1 National Collegiate Athletic Association while the football sports club is run by student members who schedule competitions with other universities and colleges.

In a statement, FGCU said the actions of the volunteer has caused “a great deal of confusion to not only the individuals receiving the ‘offers,’ but to others reading accounts on social media.” Additionally, the offers have nothing to do with its collegiate programs.
