A pilot and passenger escaped to safety after the small plane they were in caught fire after takeoff at Venice Airport Sunday afternoon. The pilot said he smelled smoke seconds after takeoff and suddenly saw flames. Both he and his passenger quickly got out of the plane and right to safety. The fire was quickly put out. The FAA is handling the investigation. Venice Airport remains closed Sunday night.
