Carnival Cruise Line confirms a male passenger died recently after he fell four stories on one of its cruise ships out at sea.

Among other passengers on the ship was a Cape Coral family who spoke to us and shared the commotion and confusion they and many others experienced when the man fell.

The family stayed on the ninth floor of the large sea vessel, the same floor the passenger victim was on. A Carnival ship employee told the family he fell from the ninth floor to the fifth.

“We were looking over our balcony, and we’re seeing the section of the fifth floor is all blocked off, said Cyndi Knox, whose family from Cape Coral were passengers on the ship.

The family said the same worker initially told them the ship’s staff was expecting a trauma helicopter to airlift the victim for treatment, but he died before it was able to rescue him.

The cruise ship docked in Miami, where Carnival told us they are cooperating with Miami Police Department’s investigation. We reached out to the police department for more information but have not yet received a response. The name of the victim has not been released by law enforcement.

Knox said she never thought she would be so close to a tragedy such as this. She said, when the man fell, other passengers, were blocked from view of the scene, leaving many wondering what had happened on the fifth floor.

“People standing around it, and they can’t get to it,” Knox said. “And all of the furniture is being pushed back. I mean, you know something was up. You just didn’t know what. It’s just a thing you can’t fathom.”
