A years long utility extension project is agitating nearby residents that have to deal with the mess on a daily basis.

Since 2017, the utility extension project has been under construction, but it’s days like Friday, where the area can get a little dirty, due to rain.

Neighbors say they are over the delays and the mess that comes along with it.

“So the impact is having to join a monthly car wash to keep my car cleaned inside…I have to clean constantly, I mean I have two kids and a dog that bring it in every day so that’s annoying,” said nearby resident, Katie Sylva.

The last update on the project was back in September, and the underground utilities were 90-percent complete. 103 miles of streets have been repaved, which equates to about 54-percent of the total project.

Some people in the area are ready for it to be over, others say they don’t mind as much.

“I don’t have a problem with it, it’s construction, that’s what happens when you’re in a construction zone. Normally most developments have this done prior to the houses being built, this just happens to be something done afterward,” Said Guy Lee, who lives in Cape Coral.

As of Friday, Cape Coral will release the newest pavement updates on Wednesday, but the area is expected to be complete in 2020.
