Police found a decomposing body in a Fort Myers field while searching for two suspects from an unrelated scene on Wednesday, Nov. 13.

The decomposed body was found in a field along Hanson St. and Palm Ave. around 9 p.m. after an officer working the perimeter for a stolen vehicle stumbled upon it.

The victim has been identified as 51-year-old Curtis Thomas, according to FMPD. Police say there is no suspicion of foul play.

Police blocked off an industrial area near where the body was found as they collected evidence.

The scene is clear but neighbors say the discovery worries them for their safety.

“It’s pretty scary finding something like this around the corner from you, it’s not normal, and definitely not normal for a dead body to pop up out of nowhere,” said Tasmia Green of Fort Myers.

Police say the body was turned over to the medical examiner’s office and there is no danger to the public.

The investigation is ongoing.
