Employees at Southwest Florida International Airport said several people did not make it to their flights on Wednesday because of long lines. With the holidays coming closer, the lines could become even worse.

The fear of getting stuck in a long line at the airport is a frustrating nightmare Jeff Kern does not want to deal with while flying home from Southwest Florida. ”They said because of the construction,” he said, “to get here a couple hours early.”

The lines Wednesday morning were a congested mess at RSW and employees said long lines are causing some travelers to miss flights.

”It’s very unusual to have the lines like that,” said David Feinstein, who lives in Fort Myers.

Right now, RSW is working on adding extra lanes to each of the concourses. It advises travelers to arrive two hours early due to the wait times. But with the holidays ahead, travelers are worried.

”It’s going to be a challenge with all this construction,” Kern said. “It’s going to be a challenge.”
