3 dead in early morning crash on SR-82 in Collier County

Three people died Wednesday morning in a Collier County wreck that happened on State Road 82 about three miles west of State Road 29.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, one person driving a Jeep Wrangler was traveling east on SR-82 in the westbound lanes when it collided head-on with another vehicle, a Jaguar EX, that was traveling west.

Both vehicles became fully engulfed in flames killing both drivers and the single passenger in the Jaguar.

The eastbound lanes of SR-82 were closed for hours while crews worked to clear the scene.

The victims’ names will not be released until next of kin has been notified.

FHP says the crash is under investigation.
