Monday is Veterans Day, and if you are active or retired Military, WINK News thanks you for your service.

Friday, Lee County students are learning about the importance of honoring our men and women in uniform.

It’s not only an honor to our veterans, but it is also a moment to teach the kids what it means to serve out country.

Some have been attending for years, and for others it is their first time.

The principal at San Carlos Park Elementary tells us the kids love to ask questions and hear stories.

One veteran says he believes it is important to explain to the kids what it means to be a veteran.

“Actually, I’m ready to answer that in a small group setting with some pictures and talk about which services they are. If they like to become an officer in the service or non-commissioned officer and have pictures of the Air Force the Navy Marines the Coast Guard an Army of course because I’m an army guy. I have pictures to show them and trying to get them to look into what it is,” veteran, Bob Goodman said.

The school will wrap up the day with a concert and after that the veterans will be able to go into the classrooms and speak with the students.
