Rep. Dane Eagle announced Wednesday he is running for Francis Rooney’s U.S Congressional District 19 seat.

In his announcement, Eagle outlined his platform, stating “I’m running to secure our borders, defend the 2nd Amendment, clean up our waterways, and protect American jobs.”

Eagle was born and raised in Cape Coral. He attended Bishop Verot High School and Florida Gulf Coast University before graduating from the University of Florida. He was elected to the Florida House for District 77 in 2012.

Eagle said in a tweet, “I am honored to announce my candidacy for the United States Congress! I am running because the future of our nation is at stake, and I will not sit on the sidelines while our country and our President are under attack.”
