Boaters who enjoy navigating the upper Caloosahatchee River will soon enjoy improved access to the Alva Boat Ramp due to a renovation project approved today, Nov. 5, by the Lee Board of County Commissioners. The project will expand the popular boat ramp, 21580 Pearl St., to two lanes, replace the boarding dock and make parking lot improvements, including ADA accessibility. The ramp, which provides access to the Caloosahatchee River upstream of the Franklin Locks, is used by an average of 1,150 people monthly. The work is scheduled to be completed by Spring 2020 and is being completed by Kelly Brothers, Inc., of Fort Myers. The cost of the project, about $495,000, is funded by boater registration fees.
